Last night I moved a crate for Zulu/Cay into the living room and was planning to have her spend the night there. But it got pretty late and the last time I took her out, she did not want to come back up the stairs. I think she was afraid that I would put her in the bathtub again! It was almost 11:00 and I was exhausted, so I decided to let her stay in the basement and wait until today to try for upstairs. She was still damp when I got her out this morning, and that is partly why I had wanted to get her upstairs where it’s warmer. Also, she’s used to being around other dogs. Last night when she was briefly loose in the house, she tried to wander into my bedroom where the other two were crated. They barked at her and scared her a bit. I’ll be happy when I have them all together, getting along. She isn’t used to being alone this much.
This morning when I went down to take her out, she was waiting for me. When I opened the door, she came out of her crate on her own and followed me to the door. A small victory! I didn’t have to hook the leash onto her collar and pull her out of the crate this time. When we got to the door, I bent over to hook on the leash and put on the collar with tags. She looked away and left a small pee spot, but she is getting better about that too.
I’m feeding her the Eagle Pack duck and oatmeal food that I got for Chase, to help his digestion. I hope it helps her by firming up her soggy stools and making her coat as nice as Chase’s has become. She tends to toss over her food bowl, scattering the food and burying pieces of kibble under the towels in her crate. When I come back later, the food is gone though. She shows some of the burying and nesting behavior that Kate showed in her crate. At least now Zulu/Cay is eating and I’m planning to get her in better shape.
>I’d been wondering how I would know when she was wagging her very short stump of a tail. Today I found out. Her whole butt wiggles—she’s a little waggy butt when she’s happy!
I took a stool sample in today and found out that she needs to be treated for worms, so I picked up some panacure for all 3 dogs on the way home.
Cay went with me to take the garbage can out to the road last night and came with me this evening to bring the garbage can back up the driveway. Then we walked a loop around the property twice. She’s getting used to walking on a leash.
This evening I brought her upstairs from the basement. She watches everything! She watched carefully as I threw the rubber chicken for Bandit. Once Bandit and Chase went outside and she came out of her crate, she grabbed one of the rubber chickens and took it into her crate. Little chicken thief!
