Last night Bandit and I had obedience class. Afterward, I took Cayenne in to meet Deb, Ann, Ann, and Dopey the Bassett Hound. Cay did ok, but wouldn’t take a treat from anyone—she was too distracted. Ann took the leash and walked her around inside, all within my sight. All three women are experienced dog handlers and were good to Cay. She is just still reserved about new places and people. The more I get her out, the more she’ll get used to it, as long as I continue to give her good experiences.
She’s blossoming at home, running with the boys and not staying to herself as much. Chase goes to dog day care once per week because I decided he needed more of a social life away from his bossy brother Bandit, who is usually more interested in the ball, but occasionally plays with Chase. Well, Chase seems to have learned some new wrestling moves at day care. He comes home and tries them on Bandit. I can just see the wheels turning in his brain…â€Hmmm, I think I’ll try this one on Bandit!†This morning, in the back yard, Chase decided to engage Cay in play and he didn’t give up. Soon they were racing around the yard, with Cay on a nutty run and Chase in pursuit (one of his favorite things, thus the name). This is how I pictured things before Cay came here. I thought that Bandit would stay busy with his ball and Cay would play with Chase. But for the most part, she has fixated on Bandit and followed him around while he chases the ball. It was fun to see Chase and Cay playing more together. Now that it isn’t raining as much and we’re getting outside more, Cay is following us better and starting to hang with the group more. She’s also starting to come to me and take food from me more.
She loves to grab the towel and run with it and has that silly streak like Rainbow did. She also collects the toys and stashes them in her crate. Reminds me of Kate.
