Frankie the Walk ‘n Roll Dog is a delightful book for both children and adults. Frankie the Dachshund faces and overcomes many challenges in this story, including housebreaking issues, the death of her canine pal, and then her own paralysis after an accident. Frankie’s indomitable spirit, positive attitude, and love of life help her to keep on going and eventually to keep on rolling when she is fitted with wheels to help her get around. The love between Frankie and her mom Barbara is evident in the activities they enjoy together and the obstacles they overcome in the story.Barbara and Frankie continue to be ambassadors today as they spread their message of overcoming challenges and facing each day with a positive attitude.

I first learned about this book when it was nominated for the Dog Writers Association of America Merial Human-Animal Bond Award. It is beautifully illustrated by Victoria Kay Lieffring. Frankie is irresistibly cute and her story is irresistible too!

Recently, Frankie was inducted into the Wisconsin Pet Hall of Fame. She was nominated by her veterinarian for being an inspiration to others. She has visited many schools and hospitals, providing a perfect example of having a positive attitude and keepin’ on rolling in the face of adversity.
