LEVI

LEVI (MN) (ACD, Texas) rehomed in Minnesota (February 2007)

Homeward Bound found Levi a home in February with two very nice young men, roommates who both jog daily and have another “part time dog”… a Lab they have shared custody with from one’s former girlfriend.

I first heard about Levi when Tammie of Tri-city Animal Shelter in Cedar Hill, TX contacted ACDRI at the end of October. She then e-mailed me this message, along with his photo.

This is Levi. He’s a young adult, intact male. I have personally acquired him from the streets and am now in search of someone to take him. No luck so far on a rescue for that particular breed. Please if anyone can help, contact me at the shelter. I am keeping him there at this time.

Thanks, Tammie Tri-City Animal Shelter Read more…

SADIE & PUPS

We were able to rescue 3 adult ACDs and 7 puppies from a kill shelter in Kentucky and one ACD-X from a gas kill shelter in Georgia. We are really only able to be successful in situations where we have a contact at or near the shelter who can help us out. I was informed of a situation in Kentucky. A woman who volunteers with the shelter there had gotten vet care for a 1 ½ yo red male, Kenny (now neutered), a 3 yo blue female, Sadie, with a litter of 7 pups, and a young white female with red speckles, Punkin, (all apparently purebreds, except the puppies whose lineage is tbd). BRIE, PEPPER and MAGGIE (SUZY)

Brie and Pepper & Maggie (Suzy) (ALL ADOPTED)

My friend Melissa e-mailed me about some ACD puppies and an adult female ACD that local people were trying to rescue from a mentally ill hoarder in Georgia. Here’s the link: http://www.pikecountyanimaladvocates.blogspot.com/ Look at the January 29 hoarder article—-you can scroll down to see these dogs. “Kat” the cattle dog-X is listed just before the two ACD-X puppies.

We had some debate over whether the puppies are purebred or not, and decided to help get them out. Kat was living on a 2 foot long chain. The puppies were living in separate 2’ x 2’ pens. All three were determined to be fairly social and adoptable. There were many dogs at the place and one had been hit over the head with a shovel (presumably while on a short chain) and was having seizures. It was NOT pretty. Read more…

BILLABONG

Saturday – September 16, 2006 – Billabong finds a new home!

Taken from the following website – written by Barry, Billabong’s new owner.

http://www.sandpiperconcepts.com/winkipop.htm

I first heard about Billabong from the following post from Jenny Pavlovic on the ACD-L on 9-3-06:
I received a message about three cattle dogs in the Roicy Duhon Animal Control Center in Lafayette, LA. They have been held over from a scheduled death sentence more than once-the next date scheduled is September 7th. The problem is that the shelters down there are still being overloaded by stray Katrina animals and their offspring. The chances of them being pulled or adopted locally are slim to none.
One of the workers down there has a special fondness for cattle dogs and has been looking out for them as best she can. She wrote: “My heart belongs to the precious little blue Heeler who has known very little kindness. Someone has not treated her well, and she is scared to death. She has been held over before, and I am making a special plea for her. Please, someone pull her and show her people are not all cruel. Each of these animals is awesome, and deserving of a second chance. Please try and make one space to save a life.
Please help if you can. Read more…
